We continue to add GMP and HACCP certifications at our processing facilities. These certifications meet all the requirements of the Food Safety Enhancement Program (FSEP) of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). While we are not regulated to meet this standard, we have enthusiastically embraced it as an opportunity to demonstrate to our customers our commitment to food safety.
We are very proud of our Organic certifications, they are a testament to the wholesome nature of our products. And, in response to the needs of our global marketplace, we are proud to hold both Halal and Kosher certifications. These accreditations exemplify our focus on ensuring our facilities and products meet all the requirements of our various markets.
Over thirty years experience and investment in Research and Development has made Acadian Seaplants world authorities on understanding marine plant physiology and how to process our seaweeds without compromising their valuable properties. Our company has developed unparalleled expertise in a wide range of innovative seaweed processing and product manufacturing technologies. The company's low impact processes were designed to ensure the marine plants are handled in a manner that preserves the valuable characteristics of fresh seaweed.
The fresh marine plants that serve as raw material for our products are hand harvested at the optimal time, following our strict harvesting procedures. This ensures that only the highest quality of the desired marine plant species is harvested. Select hand-harvesting also guarantees the sustainability of this valuable renewable resource and protection of its ecosystem. Fresh seaweed material is initially inspected and continually tested throughout the entire manufacturing process. This commitment to excellence ensures our customers receive only top-quality, performance-proven products every time.
Acadian Seaplants has long recognized that providing exceptional quality products and customer service are keys to success in its global markets.
Our strict standards for excellence are enforced at every step in every operation. Superior quality starts with the initial harvesting or cultivation of seaweed materials and extends to processing, manufacturing, packaging, delivery, and technical customer support.

This is a one-of-a-kind, voluntary program that has resulted in the certification of approximately 330 feed-related facilities. Certified facilities exceed federal requirements to ensure the highest standards in manufacturing and processing are followed each and every day.

Our botanical products
The safety of our seaweed products destined to become products in health, beauty, nutraceutical and brewery industries are assured through the meticulous application of HACCP and GMP procedures. These programs are continuously verified both internally and externally – using an independent and internationally-recognized auditing firm.
The harvested seaweeds are passively solar dried and carefully processed to preserve the benefits of the live seaweed while maintaining exacting quality control specifications for purity and cleanliness. As a result of this minimal processing of the wild seaweeds, these products are all natural and hold Organic, Halal, and Kosher certifications.
We supply global botanical product manufacturers with pure and natural seaweed ingredients, which meet their unique biochemical and physical profile specifications. The botanical industry has precise standards for all their ingredient suppliers and we are proud to have been serving this industry since 1981.
Our cultivated, sea vegetable products
Acadian Seaplants, Canada's leading seaweed producer, cultivates its Hana-Tsunomata™ line of edible sea vegetables in a large, land-based tank system in Charlesville, Nova Scotia. Available in vivid pink, green and yellow colours, our sea vegetables are derived from a rare, but naturally-occurring, strain of Chondrus crispus
. The products are grown using the pure and cold Atlantic Ocean waters filtered from the local, pristine marine environment.
We successfully introduced Hana-Tsunomata™ into the Japanese marketplace over a decade ago and now offer the line worldwide. Our controlled production and processing environment ensures product consistency and complete traceability, one of our many advantages over wild crafted marine plants used for food. Our world-class cultivation technologies also allow us to propagate other unique strains of marine plants for both high quality food and other uses.
Our cultivation site is provincially registered and is the largest commercial cultivation operation of its kind in the world. We are also proud to be a quality food producer and processor member of the Taste of Nova Scotia
, a local marketing association with global reach.
Also reflecting the stringent quality standards of our food production facility, our cultivated products are Halal and Kosher certified.
